Jesus, Son of Israel - Luke 3:21-38
December 14, 2014
This week we continue our Advent series through Luke’s genealogy in Luke 3:23-38 by looking at Jesus, Son of Jacob. Jacob is a significant figure in the Old Testament. His story stretches over half of the book of Genesis, from chapters 25-50. He is the patriarch over 12 sons who would come to bear the 12 tribes of Israel. In fact, Jacob’s name was changed to Israel after a wrestling match with God. We spend our time this Sunday in Genesis 28:10-17, which recounts Jacob’s dream of a ladder stretching from earth to Heaven.
