Colossians 1:1–1:8

This week begins our series in Colossians. Paul never visited Colossae. Some dangerous teaching had arisen, so Paul wrote to remind the Colossian believers not to get sidetracked by all kinds of murmurs and teaching.

This passage lifts up the scandalous grace of God that is seen supremely in Jesus Christ. It is hard for any of us to accept grace. We want to know what to do, how to live, what it will take to earn our way. Even in our approach to faith and our pursuit of purpose, we so often place our hope in things we can achieve on our own. God’s grace turns it all upside down.
