In the city, for the city

Revelation 2:8-11

The Christians in Smyrna were persecuted. The call of the church, God’s people is to suffer (cf. 1 Pet. 5). Jesus is the One who has gone before us, suffered, and died. His resurrection gives us the hope that can free us to be faithful in suffering, even to death. We know that the second death has no power over Christ or those who are His. (No rebuke)

Smyrna – Revelation 2:8-11

June 18, 2017

Smyrna is one of the only churches of the seven to receive no criticism. This letter is for all of you who are suffering and struggling, even wondering where God is in your life. Jesus has words of comfort and a call to faithfulness even in the face of suffering, but a sweet promise of life from the One who has passed through death to life.
